Hello! My name is Emily Bellaver, and I am an illustrator based in Detroit, MI. I am a soon-to-be grad from the College for Creative Studies, and I will be receiving a BFA in entertainment arts. I’ve lived in and around Detroit my entire life, and my background is in music and floral design. I’ve been making art since I was a toddler, and I was always drawn to things with beautiful visual storytelling. As an adult, I’ve come to realize that I find the stories themselves to be beautiful, and the visual part of it is a huge bonus. I have found that stories can be a very personal experience, and I seek to explore the relationship between us and the stories we tell.

My current project is titled Little Giant, a “silent” graphic novel, which relies heavily on the individual reader’s interpretation of the work. Through the use of comic-book panels and strong visual storytelling, it feels no different than reading any other graphic novel. However, I want those who read my work to think about what their unique view adds to the narrative, and perhaps in turn learn something about themselves.
